Dave Rowe Trio in Winthrop OCT. 13
Posted in Concerts, Kennebec, Music on September 23rd, 2007.Winthrop-Maine’s Dave Rowe Trio will bring their dazzling three-part harmony, hot guitar picking, and jaw-dropping fiddling to the Winthrop Performing Arts Center, 211 Rambler Rd., Winthrop on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.
The group began in the spring of 2004 when Dave Rowe was looking tor a new direction following the death of his dad, Tom Rowe, who was a founding member of trio Schooner Fare. Rowe met fiddle player Ed Howe and bass guitarist Kevin O’Reilly and asked them to join him on an album he was producing as a tribute to his dad who had died earlier that year.
The trio had their first rehearsal on St. Patrick’s Day before a live audience and they have not slowed down since. Their high-energy mix of Celtic, bluegrass, folk and maritime music quickly grabs audiences and makes them hold on for dear life right through the last chord. The trio has released five critically acclaimed albums and tours nationally throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic States and Midwest. Scott Alarik, writing for the /Boston Globe, /said, “In their youthful zest, pulsing melodicism, and pedal-to-the metal energy, Rowe and his pals prove there’s nothing retro about carrying on the family name.”
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Information is available by e-mailing dsetchell@wintrhropschools.org.
