Update on River Arts

Posted in Art, Lincoln, Non Profit on November 17th, 2007.

Damariscotta-Update from River Arts at Round Top Farm

The River Arts Board of Directors have compiled the results of the public survey that circulated in the region earlier this fall. The results overwhelmingly show a strong desire and stated support for the development of an art center here in Damariscotta. The comments also overwhelmingly support the idea of a venue that utilizes our unique 15 acres of river front fields for study and appreciation of nature and programming linking nature with art.

One of the most memorable events stated repeatedly was the outdoor concert in the field with the Portland Symphony Orchestra.

There were myriad suggestions about various classes, performances, events, etc, but one thread that wove through all the comments was the desire for a center to be welcoming to all, and involving the entire family, whether artists or not.

The Strategic Planning Committee, made up of both Board Members and Volunteers, has also just finished an in depth look at various art centers in New England and further afield, to ascertain their position in their communities, their programming, their business operations, and their funding. The results yielded some surprising information, supporting our initial belief that the new River Arts generate income from use of existing (and perhaps expanded) campus facilities and must collaborate with other non-profits and use the plant in ways that make it sustainable for the offering of art programming.

These findings, along with the survey results, are fundamental for our next phase, which consists of weekly meetings with interested parties, non-profits and for- profits that see a possible collaboration with River arts as mutually advantageous.

This is truly an exciting time. We are on schedule and poised to begin the exciting phase of concrete planning.

We thank all of you that took the time to respond to the survey and we appreciate your continued support and patience.

Please feel free to call or write if you have any questions, or to share your own thoughts about our future.
