Motorists traveling on I-295 Southbound late Thursday night could experience brief traffic delays near Exit 3 as Construction crews plan to stop traffic for approximately 15 minutes at 11 p.m. Thursday to attach an overhead sign truss with a crane.. Subsequent stoppages could occur later in the night, though crews expect them to be completed by 1 a.m. Friday. The Maine State Police will be on site to monitor the traffic flow and brief stoppages.

This work is part of a $5.3 million upgrade to this section of I-295 which will make the highway safer for motorists through adding an additional lane for entering and exiting the highway, adding a guardrail in the median, and installing a sound wall. The project is expected to continue until the beginning of December.

MaineDOT asks that motorists drive with caution and maintain the reduced speed limit while traveling. Motorists who reduce speed to observe construction activities have added to traffic delays and safety concerns over the past week.
