New Owners Give New Life to Falmouth Community

Falmouth, ME, September 9, 2009 — The former Ridgewood Estates development, located off of Falmouth Road in Falmouth, has been acquired and revitalized by Ridgewood Associates to create a community and lifestyle that appeal to the interests and demands of the evolving real estate market.

Shortening the name to simply “Ridgewood,” new owners Mike Payson and Jim Wescott, Falmouth natives and brothers-in-law, have reinvigorated the project with new capital and will soon announce their vision for the real estate development, which consists of freestanding single-family homes, organized under a condominium structure to streamline common-area maintenance.

Payson says, “The original plan for the former Ridgewood Estates was a great concept. Jim and I feel strongly, though, that some new ideas will enhance the appeal of the community and make it truly unique in southern Maine.” He adds, “We have the capital to realize our vision, and we’re already off to a very good start.”

The first neighborhood is under construction and will include eleven homes. Three are completed and for sale, with prices starting at $389,000. One home is already under contract. The remaining homes are being built over the next several months.

Port City Architecture designed a selection of five home styles, ranging from 1,800 to 3,600 square feet. Floor plans accommodate a social lifestyle with open kitchen, dining, and living areas that invite natural light. Homes are situated in small clusters with facing front porches that allow for neighborly engagement and back yards that offer privacy and views of fields, woods, and wildlife. SYTDesign planned the site with a focus on maintaining the land’s pastoral beauty while incorporating pedestrian walkways, stonewalls, and ponds.

Homes are offered through Bruce Lewis, Hona Longstaff, and David Banks of RE/MAX By The Bay, Portland, 207-773-2345.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

South Portland, Maine – September 8, 2009 – Healthy Body, Fit Mind and the Chiropractic Healing Arts Center are pleased to announce the launch of their new strategic wellness partnership and collaboration with Colleen Myers to create “Our Wellness Room”. The businesses are combining forces and inviting the public to participate in free wellness workshops during the week of September 20, 2009 to celebrate the grand opening and provide education for both body and mind.

“Our Wellness Room” was created by Colleen Myers, yoga instructor and wellness consultant, Dr. Fawn Dunphy of the Chiropractic Healing Arts, and MaryAnn Molloy, owner of Healthy, Body Fit Mind to address the health needs of their current clients and patients by offering natural alternatives. One key area of focus they all found in common in focusing on is bone and joint health. During September 20th through September 26th, they will be giving a free preview of all the new wellness services that people can take advantage of through their collaboration. These free workshops include a Tai Chi class, an all-day yoga event, and key presentations about natural alternatives for bone and joint challenges.

“I am very excited about the changes going on at Healthy Body, Fit Mind and the Chiropractic Healing Arts,” said MaryAnn Molloy, owner of Healthy Body, Fit Mind. “Our 40 years plus, Baby Boomers and senior clientele has grown rapidly in the year since we opened. We’ve expanded our staff, and we’re moving downstairs to better accommodate our clients. From this expansion came ‘Our Wellness Room’, a fusion of the Gentle Yoga created by Colleen Myers, Healthy Body, Fit Mind and Dr. Fawn Dunphy’s Chiropractic Healing Arts Center located on the first floor. This is the vision I had in mind when I first came to 85 E Street – wellness offerings all under one roof serving South Portland, Cape Elizabeth and Portland being so conveniently located near the Casco Bay bridge. We are able to offer even more services for people to experience the ripple effects of health and longevity.”

Medical Missionary to the Dominican Republic’s “Bateys” to Speak in Bangor, ME

Monday, September 7th, 2009

Bangor, ME—September 19-20–Columbia Street Baptist Church, 63 Columbia Street, will be host medical missionary Kristy Engel.

Kristy Engel tries to live by her saying, “Do what you can, with what you’ve got, in the moment you’re given” through her medical work in La Romana, Dominican Republic and the surrounding sugarcane villages.

Spending time as a mission volunteer in Haiti helped Kristy to realize that God was calling her into medical mission. After completing nursing school, she returned to Haiti and worked in pediatrics at Good Samaritan Hospital in Limbé for eighteen months. Now she works with the Good Samaritan Hospital in La Romana, Dominican Republic, ministering to Haitians who are among the poorest in the country. She travels daily to batey (work camp) villages and barrios providing medical attention where so many have been unwilling or unable to offer these services.

“I find incredible joy and fulfillment in working with children,” says Kristy Engel, who uses her skills in nursing and education in medical ministry in the Dominican Republic.

Malnutrition, parasites and poor economic conditions make it difficult to provide appropriate care to the children she works with, but with the help of many American volunteers, she is able to meet some of their needs. She helps to coordinate the medical and volunteer teams that visit the Good Samaritan Hospital as well as mentor individuals or university students who seek international experiences.

Her two dogs, Kobe and Sasha, are also part of her ministry by being her “patients” as she demonstrates appropriate oral hygiene by brushing their teeth and talking about
caring for our bodies. “When I work with my dog, Kobe, to teach children proper hygiene by brushing his teeth, bathing him and brushing his coat,” she says, “most of the kids know his name better than my own!”

Kristy believes few people enter the field of medical ministry because of perceived hardship and often-volatile work environments. “Unfortunately, this means that many people around the world will suffer and die due to lack of medical treatment,” she says. “I have found that God has given me a greater sense of His purpose through nursing on the mission field.”  Kristy completed her Master’s in Nursing and her Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program in 2009.

Kristy has been working in La Romana since 2000 and she speaks both Spanish and Haitian Creole fluently.

Kristy also leads many American work teams that minister to the needs in the Dominican Republic.

Kristy Engel’s Schedule:  Sept. 19 – 6:00 pm Potluck Supper with Kristy Speaking at 7:00 pm.  Sept. 20 – 9:00 am: Kristy will share with the children and youth. Sept. 20 – 10:15: Kristy will share in the morning worship service. Sept. 20 – 6:00 pm: Kristy will share in the evening worship service
