BOOTHBAY HARBOR REGION UNVEILS NEW WEBSITE CREATED TO CHARM VISITORS AND LOCALS ALIKE

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Positioning the “Soul of the Coast” for success in a new century.

Boothbay Harbor, ME – The Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce recently unveiled a newly created and highly versatile Internet site designed both to lure a new generation of vacationers to the region and to keep local residents and visitors alike connected with area merchants and businesses as well as community events. What clearly underscores the new “www.boothbayharbor.com” is a commitment to enhancing economic vitality, promoting tourism, and enriching region’s unique sense of community.
“In today’s world, more and more people turn to the Internet first to find out about a business, discover a new destination, or keep an eye on what’s going on locally,” said Jaimie Logan, executive director of the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce. “In developing the new website, we’ve ensured that the Boothbay Harbor Region’s information is right at the consumers’ fingertips and that their first impressions are stunning and memorable. We’re very confident that our new website will accomplish both of these objectives.”
Moreover, the Chamber’s leadership has high expectations that the new website will connect the uninitiated and the seasoned visitor with “The Soul of the Coast.” Cindy Mastrella, Chamber marketing committee chair, noted that the website would provide every visitor “with greater insight into this authentic, affordable region, breathtaking camera work from Mitchell Photography, an up-to-the-minute calendar of events, and a searchable directory of local businesses.”
The updated website also offers these features:
• Welcome video
• Online guide book
• In-depth information about area businesses
• Hot deals
• Advertising opportunities
• Ability for Chamber members to update/maintain their own records and posts
The Chamber is also taking advantage of online marketing and social media such as email marketing, Facebook, and YouTube to encourage people to visit online to “discover” Boothbay Harbor – and then to come see for themselves.
“For more than a century, the Boothbay Harbor Region has been a favorite destination of travelers longing to relax and enjoy the rock-bound coast of Maine from land and sea,” says Logan. “Together with the genuine hospitality and friendliness of the people who live and work here, this is unmistakably ‘The Soul of the Coast.’”

Taking It to the Streets – Portland Company Creates Mobile Store Maker for Phones

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

PORTLAND, Maine – Two new programs developed by a Portland company promise to improve trade for thousands of small businesses in Maine and across the world by giving users the ability to charge credit cards and to create a mobile store right on their smart phones.

App Publishing, LLC, located in the Old Port, has created the Mobile Store Maker and the Mobile Invoicer, which allow businesses to show and sell their products on a smart phone using a secure credit-card processing program.

With more than 150,000 small businesses in Maine alone, and e-commerce totaling over $100 billion annually in the United States, the two applications could provide a boost to store owners at all levels. The subscription-based applications will be particularly useful for “mom-and-pop” businesses, such as artists and craftsmen, farmers, musicians, and others who travel to sell their wares.

“Businesses will be able to literally carry their store in their pocket, and to make a sale virtually anywhere there’s a buyer,” Bill Broadbent, App Publishing’s co-founder, said of the programs.

Mobile Store Maker allows people – whether they’re selling items at a garage sale or expanding the reach of a brick-and-mortar operation – to load product images and information onto a smart phone. Buyers can then purchase the items using a credit/debit card, PayPal, or Google Checkout. Mobile Invoicer allows someone to create an invoice right on their smart phone, and then hand the device to a customer for immediate payment, or send an invoice by email or text.

“Millions of customers access the Internet from their smart phone,” said fellow co-founder Link Stevens. “Our Mobile Store Maker will help these companies quickly and easily adapt to this shift in online customer shopping patterns.”
