Rockport has been selected as one of America’s prettiest towns by Forbes Traveler magazine for a second year (the story can be found here by clicking on ‘slideshow’).
Quoting PBS host and photographer Bob Krist, Forbes notes that Rockport “has got probably the most picturesque harbor you’ve ever seen.” The story goes on to note the preponderance of cultural institutions that complement the natural beauty, and even namechecks Andre the seal.
Rockport, also listed in 2008, is joined by Burlington VT, Annapolis MD, Sedona AZ, and others on the Forbes Traveler list.
This honor for Rockport marks yet more recognition for the Camden Hills area in what has been an impressive fall for garnering national laurels. Coming on the heels of Camden’s selection as Maine’s prettiest harbor by Down East magazine and one of New England’s best small towns by Boston magazine as well as Rockland’s designation as one of America’s coolest small towns by Budget Travel, it seems the national media has figured out what local residents have known for a long time; namely that we live in a beautiful, liveable, and downright cool part of the coast.
