Portland, Maine, May 5, 2010 – Bernstein Shur, one of northern New England’s largest law firms, announced today that its attorney and shareholder Scot E. Draeger has been chosen to serve as a member of the Board of Advisors for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Historical Society. Located in Washington, D.C., the SEC Historical Society shares, preserves and advances knowledge of the history of financial regulation.
The Board of Advisors, chosen for their demonstrated interest in and support for the society, are committed volunteers who serve as advocates for the society by promoting its goals, assisting with fundraising and collaborating with trustees on new initiatives. The Board is composed of some of the nation’s most renowned securities lawyers, accountants, and economists. Draeger will serve a three-year term on the board starting on June 1, 2010.
In addition to being a shareholder of Bernstein Shur, Draeger is a member of Bernstein Shur’s Business Law Practice Group and is the Practice Leader for its Securities and Financial Services Industry Group. His national practice focuses on representing securities industry and capital markets participants in the full spectrum of regulatory, compliance, enforcement, and transactional matters, with an emphasis on counseling the investment management industry and financial services companies. Draeger is also an active speaker and writer on topics of interest to the securities industry and corporate governance issues generally.
Prior to joining Bernstein Shur, Draeger held the positions of Director and Corporate Counsel at Citi Markets & Banking and Senior Vice President of Citigroup Corporate and Investment Bank. He is also a former Senior Legal Counsel to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C., where he served in both the SEC’s Office of General Counsel and as Legal Counselor to SEC Commissioner Roel C. Campos. He received his J.D. from the University of Maine in 1999 and an undergraduate degree from the University of Cincinnati, graduating cum laude in 1996.
