NORTH BERWICK FESTIVAL 2010
Second Annual Honduran Rooster Run 5K Road Race

A 5K race is not only fun but an innovative way to increase awareness to the community that surrounds the founder, Sharon Beckwith of Daisy’s Children, about the poverty that engulfs the children and their families in the village of Concepcion Del Norte, Honduras. Sharon (a Local Kindergarten Teacher) and her partner in “Grime”, Amanda French (BOD Chair) set out this summer for seven weeks to continue the work of this program and to bring the first “service team” of workers for 10 days to the village. This summers objective is to refurbish an old four bedroom house, in the village, to be used as a day care and foster care home facility for the children and the families of the Daisy’s Children project. (“Los Angelitos’ de Deysi Guarderia.) The service team has since returned from Honduras and Sharon and Amanda still remain until August 12th, working daily on the Day Care building with locals in the village that are all eager to lend them a hand, taking great pride in what the “Gringas” from the US bring to their people!
When Sharon and Amanda return on the 12th of August, much work begins here in the US on the Second Annual Honduran Rooster Run 5K road race scheduled for Saturday, Aug 21st, 2010 in the Village of North Berwick, Maine! Stepping all the way from the village of poverty, into the village of North Berwick, Maine is leaps and bounds from life in Honduras, but Sharon and Amanda do all of this for the children with unwavering commitment!
