Studio to Host Red Carpet Event for 1st Anniversary

Portland, Maine – August 12th, 2010

August 24th, 2010 marks the 365th day of operation for The Maine Studios. To celebrate this milestone, The Maine Studios and the Nickelodeon Theaters in Portland, in conjunction with Sebago Brewing Company and Coffee by Design, proudly announce the 1st Annual Maine Summer Shorts Festival. On the evening of August 24th, Temple Street will glimmer with glitz as local film, television and arts luminaries arrive by limousine for the festival and stride down the red carpet to enjoy the premieres of five extraordinary short films.

This first festival will feature the world premieres of Tim Lasimov’s Strange Night, and David Miller and Charlie Simmon’s A Very Careful Man, as well as the public premieres of the Maine Film Collaborative production (and recent MIFF entry), Come to Know, Colin Birney’s Wait! and Jordan Roy’s Bitten. Also featured will be trailers of Maine works that are at various stages of completion.

Studio Executive John E. Seymore commented, “We’re excited to be partnering with the Nickelodeon for this event.” He reflected on the past year, “This is a great cap to a very busy year. More than forty productions have utilized The Studios; many were shorts like the ones at this festival and some were national commercials. We have made major strides over the last year and that will continue as features are starting to line up for the coming year.”

The Maine Studios success is, largely, due to the extraordinary generosity of the Nappi family. The facility, over 43,000 square feet of production and office space was leased to the Maine Film Collaborative in 2009. Public Relations Director, Gary Hauger said, “Without such a great space to work in we wouldn’t be where we are today.” The Dunham Group was instrumental in brokering the deal that brought new life to the former distribution center. Hauger continued, “Tom Dunham has been great. It is largely through him that we have built a great relationship with the Nappi family. They’ve all been fantastic to work with.”

Tickets for the festival will be available at The Nickelodeon theaters and are $10.00 in advance or $15.00 the day of the festival. Limousine packages are also available for cast and crew. Space is limited, so get your tickets early. For these packages or for businesses that would be interested in sponsoring the festival, please contact The Maine Studios at contact@mainefilms.org for details.
