6th Annual Camden International Film Festival

September 30-October 3rd 2010

Camden, Rockport and Rockland Maine

The Camden International Film Festival returns for its sixth season in October 2010. The festival will once again shine the spotlight on works that show dedication to craft and a unique and artistic approach to telling a darn good story. All films are selected because of their ability to arouse discussion on documentary film as an art form, a catalyst for change and as an outlet for the independent voice.

Each year CIFF takes over multiple venues throughout three coastal towns in Maine. Nestled against the mighty Atlantic during fall’s explosion of color, the festival becomes a unique setting to experience the very best in international documentary film. Accompanying the screening of nearly fifty features and shorts are Q&A’s with directors and producers, the Points North Documentary Film Forum, musical concerts, interactive and video art installations, parties, panels and an opportunity to connect with eager audiences and industry leaders in an extremely intimate setting.

The towns that hold screenings in are close in proximity, but all have their own distinct feel. The main venues are Camden’s Opera House , Bayview St. Cinema and Rockland’s Strand Theatre and Farnsworth Art Museum. They also hold events at the Maine Media Workshops campus in downtown Rockport, Maine.

The Camden International Film Festival began in 2005 after the festival’s founder and director realized that despite the rich history of documentary filmmaking found throughout New England, there was not one event dedicated solely to highlighting the work of nonfiction artists, especially the new style of filmmaking that had been emerging in the documentary world.

Since 2005 CIFF has screened hundreds of award-winning films and hosted filmmakers from all over the world. Their commitment to seek out films that that push the boundaries of the form has paid off and they are proud to have screened several New England, East Coast and National Premieres of some major films in the documentary world over the past five years.

Last year, the POINTS NORTH Documentary Film Forum, was introduced, an afternoon of panels, workshops and networking designed specifically to connect the documentary community with industry leaders from Sundance, HBO, PBS, Gucci-Tribeca, IFP and the LEF Foundation.

Each year the audiences have grown, but the commitment to their mission has remained the same. They love a good story, one that acts as a microcosm for the larger issue at hand and they love to share these stories with audiences. What separates them from the pack is the intimacy of the event and the cutting edge programming. Join em in 2010 for some films, merry making and more fresh ocean air then you can swallow as they continue this exciting journey of showcasing the very best in nonfiction film.
