Maine Comedy is the People’s Choice

Maine film maker Bill McLean couldn’t be happier after this weekend’s Lewiston Auburn Film Festival win for his film Scooter McGruder. Not only the star, but also the writer and producer of the farce comedy McLean was simply thrilled with the nomination and is ecstatic about being awarded the Best Feature People’s Choice award. “It’s always nice to know that people ‘get’ your work. The audience this weekend really understood Scooter. This award shows that this little film spoke to them in a special way.”
The film, Scooter McGruder, began filming in 2009 and was recently completed in time to be submitted to the festival and was a labor of love. “It’s been a lot of work to make this film. But it has all been worth it.” McLean was even willing to eat cat food on toast and land face down in a pile of manure for his film. “These gags get great laughs. We had a great audience this weekend. I got a real charge out of hearing them laugh.”
Freight Train Films, McLean’s film company, is a family affair with wife, Tiffany, serving as Co-Director as well as Editor for the company’s first feature film. McLean commented during the question and answer session after the screening, “Tiffany was really fantastic throughout the whole process. This film would not have happened without her.” McLean’s five children also appear in the film making it truly a family project. “It’s really great to share this recognition with my family and with the entire cast and crew which feel like family now.” McLean said.
The future looks bright for Scooter McGruder as McLean plans a red carpet public premier at a local theater in the next couple months. “We definitely want people to see Scooter. I think they’ll see a little of themselves in him and laugh.” McLean is planning to show the film to distribution companies as well. “Some companies have expressed interest in helping us get Scooter out into the world.
