Maine Author to Appear at Local Convention

Portland, Maine – June 22nd, 2011
Local Portland author and filmmaker, George Dalphin, will be signing copies of his latest novel Bob Wacszowski, Necromancer, this weekend at PortCon 2011. The convention celebrates Maine’s Geek culture with guest luminaries from the gaming, science fiction, fantasy and anime worlds. PortCon runs from Friday June 24rd through Sunday June 26th with a special sneak peek for pre-registered attendees on Thursday night. The event will be held at the Wyndham Hotel in South Portland, Maine.

Bob Wacszowski, Necromancer is Dalphin’s second novel and will be available for sale at the convention, at Bull Moose Music in Scarborough and Bangor as well as on-line through Amazon.com. The story is a harrowing and hilarious tale of a regular guy who stumbles across an ancient tome of Atlantean necromancy and decides to make full use of his new powers for good, despite the world’s increasingly negative reaction to his expanding army of skeletal minions. Bob Wacszowski, Necromancer tackles a range of topics from contemporary American politics and culture to religion and metaphysics, all with a modern comedic voice. “What interested me about the story for Bob Wacszowski was the chance to shine a light on some of the more entrenched cultural notions that Americans have – about government and religion and laws both human and natural – and to turn those notions inside-out with my comedic speculative fiction tool.” Dalphin said.

This is Dalphin’s first convention appearance, but he is no novice to the spotlight. His short film Doubting Thomas screened at the Lewiston Auburn Film Festival this spring and he participated in the 48 Hour Film Project in Portland earlier this month. The multi-talented author will also be giving a reading and signing at Bull Moose Music in Scarborough on July 14th. Additional appearances will be announced as they are scheduled.
