Investing in Fitness and Future two Women Bring Their Vision of a Scarborough Training Center to Life

Scarborough, Maine (Sept. 13, 2011) — At a time when people are concerned about the health of the economy, two cousins decided to invest in their own futures and in the improved health of others. Their new venture, Zone 3 Fitness (www.zone3fitness.biz), will open in Scarborough on Oct. 1.

Nicole Avery and Monica Swan wanted to create an environment that helped others work toward living a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

“Everybody’s lives are getting busier, and only 30 percent of people actually have a regular exercise program,” said Nicole Avery. “Our goal is to design an environment where busy people can stay on track with their fitness goals. At Zone 3 Fitness, we have designed programs to meet the fitness needs of men and women who are balancing jobs, homes, families and full schedules.”

Zone 3 Fitness, will open its doors on Oct. 1, at 71 US Route 1 in Scarborough. Joining Coastal Women’s Health at the new Elevation Center, this brand-new training center will feature daily fitness classes, together with state-of-the-art equipment such as Cybex Treadmills and Arc Trainers, Spinner Elite Bikes, Concept II Rowing Machines and TRX Suspension Training Systems.

On-staff personal trainers are available to assist members in fine tuning their fitness strategy, and licensed massage therapists will be available as well. The facility also boasts private locker rooms that have clean-towel service and other convenient amenities, including a well-appointed galley kitchen and lounge where members can fix a healthy snack, check their emails or read the paper.

Avery, a Maine native, has 20 years of experience in development and management and was excited about the idea of marrying her business savvy with her fitness ambitions.  Her positive experiences in training to hike Mount Kilimanjaro and participating in triathlons during the past 15 years made operating a training center a natural fit.

Monica Swan moved to Maine in 2005. After spending summers with her family here, she knew this was the environment she was seeking to grow her own fitness business.  Monica has built a successful practice as a personal trainer and licensed massage therapist in the Yarmouth area.

“Each person has their own fitness ‘mountain top’….that goal that they have been striving for or thinking about achieving for years—it may be decreasing blood pressure or cholesterol levels; or competing in a 5K, triathlon or other event for the first time. We have designed Zone 3 Fitness to be a part of each client’s personal fitness journey,” Avery said.
