Silver Spring, MD (Oct. 27, 2011) – Alan Gibson, Principal of GOLogic, in Belfast, Maine,
has been invited to speak at the prestigious North American Passive House Conference. Gibson will talk about their design of a dormitory building at Unity College in Maine. The residence hall, designed to meet Passive House standards, uses new building technology to reduce fossil fuel consumption by 90% and increase excellence in indoor air quality.
“This residence hall is the first application of Passive House standards in an institutional setting and offers the college and its students the benefits of high indoor air quality, natural light, and a whopping 90% savings in heating bills. Why build any other way?” says architect Matthew O’Malia of GOLogic.
GOLogic will be soon celebrating the groundbreaking for another noteworthy project. Belfast Cohousing & Ecovillage is a community of thirty-six energy efficient homes to be built to the German Passive House standards. The development is on a 42-acre setting of rolling hills and pasture in the picturesque coastal Maine town of Belfast. This is a community of families who are creating an environmentally sustainable, multi-generational neighborhood that will feature homes based on the German Passive House Standard – acclaimed for their energy efficiency and design. The Belfast project, which is just starting the construction phase, has presold twenty-four of the units and has room for twelve more families.
