Portland, Maine (October 19, 2011) — Fredrick Poulin, M.D, FACC, has joined Mercy Health System of Maine, a comprehensive provider of health care services, as part of the elite team of cardiologists that make up the hospital’s new practice, Mercy Cardiology, located at Mercy Hospital, 144 State Street, 5th Floor in Portland.
Mercy Cardiology’s team of specialists provide a wide spectrum of cardiology subspecialties to patients, as well as provide ancillary services, such as EKGs, stress tests (nuclear and non-invasive), holter and event monitoring and echocardiograms in their offices.
A Boston native and graduate of Harvard College and the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Dr. Poulin trained in internal medicine and cardiology at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts, before earning fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. A specialist in cardiac pacemaker therapy and cardiac catheterization, Dr. Poulin was formerly the director of cardiology at Mercy Hospital; he currently serves as the director of Mercy’s catheterization laboratory.
By establishing this in-house practice at Mercy, patients have more options for cardiology care in the area and with Mercy already well-known for its Emergency Department and Express Care practices throughout the Greater Portland and Southern Maine area, it is well positioned to assist patients experiencing cardiac episodes more effectively and get them more specialized attention with experts on hand to attend to their needs.
“With a specialty in cardiac pacemaker therapy and catheterization, Dr. Poulin will help Mercy Cardiology provide more choice to patients in the area who need specific cardiac care,” says Eileen Skinner, President and CEO of Mercy Health Systems. “As an integral part of our team and long-time Mercy provider, he will also help ensure that the Mercy values and practices will guide the growth and direction of the practice.”
