Portland, Maine (November 09, 2011) – McAuley Residence, a comprehensive transitional housing program offering life skills, counseling, emotional support, and mentoring to women in need as a part of the Mercy Health System of Maine, recently received a $3000 donation from KeyBank at their annual Key4Women forum.

Sterling Kozlowski, President of Key Bank's Maine District, presents a $3000 donation to McAuley Residence Executive Director, Melissa Skahan

Sterling Kozlowski, president of KeyBank’s Maine District, presented the donation to McAuley Residence’s Executive Director, Melissa Skahan as part of Key’s annual Key4Women Forum, a program designed to educate and empower women business owners, entrepreneurs, and women in business.

“One of our goals at Key is to promote economic self-sufficiency in our community,” noted Kozlowski. “The McAuley Residence provides a way for women in need to move forward in their lives and get on track for reaching their dreams. We are proud to have the McAuley Residence in our community and we are proud to support them with our Key4Women Forum donation.”

“Financial support and partnerships with businesses like KeyBank are vital to our program as we work to break the cycle of poverty and addiction with women and their children,” said Melissa Skahan, Executive Director of McAuley Residence. “Our women are battling addiction, trauma, and undiagnosed/untreated mental illness, but through our program, they become healthy, productive citizens and mothers who find their voice and their courage.”

Since it was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1988, McAuley Residence, located in Portland, has helped more than two hundred women—many with children who are able to live there with them—recover from addiction, domestic violence, homelessness and other trauma. The women who enter this long term life skills program are given the help they need to heal and to thrive.
