The Franco Center continues its series of parties celebrating contemporary music with the addition of 3 shows to the calendar. Our dance parties are fun-forward, and friendly for all flavors. Leave hangups, bad juju, and preconceptions home. We’re here to dance and have a good time, and you should be, too. Bring your friends, because there is no other place in town that is having as much fun as we are. And, we wouldn’t want you to miss out.

David Bowie shouted, “Let’s Dance!”
Chic exclaimed “Everybody Dance! Clap your hands!”
C&C Music Factory bumped “Everybody Dance Now!”
It’s a fact; life feels better when you are dancing. And, that is the only reason the Franco Center is having a dance party. The best part? You and your friends are invited, because, you can’t have a party without your friends.
We’re digging deep in the crates for this party to pull out the classics, the dancefloor rockers, and the jams that have made the floor move for decades. Our musical selectors for the evening, VJ Pulse and DJ Hanzo, will be mixing the music, blending old and new, fresh and funky, classic and contemporary. Old school funk, soul, and disco meet early hip hop, FM radio and MTV pop, party jams, dancefloor movers, and fresh-from-the-charts new hits.

The Rockin’ Recons are one of the four original P.A.L. Hop bands that were key players in the explosion of pop bands in the Lewiston/Auburn area that made a national splash. Both locally and nationally, many press outlets considered this area and this band to be the next big thing. Now, years on from then, their ability to pay tribute to the best bands from the classic rock era is but one reason they are so successful with capturing the hearts of younger and older generations. Since the reforming of the group after a twenty-year hiatus in 1987, the original band continued to perform until some of the members decided to move on and new members were added to form the Rockin’ Recons of today.
The active members of the Rockin’ Recons include Bob Blais, lead guitar and vocals, who played with the group Patches in the 70’s; Ron Vachon, guitar and lead vocals, who also played with the Royal Knights in the 60’s; Denny Blais, the son of Bob Blais on bass and lead vocals, Mike Asseslin, keyboard, bass and vocals, who also performed with Truckin and Vehicle in the 60’s and 70’s; Doug Doyer, drummer, who also played with Starfire and Cheex in the 80’s; and Roger Blais, guitar, percussion and vocals, who also was a forming member of the Innkeepers.
The unique mix of six talented musicians with a blend of guitar, keyboard, percussion and strong vocals will cause you to dance and party like you haven’t in, well, decades. With a range of music from the 50’s through the 80’s delivered with a sense of style, The Rockin’ Recons are truly one of Maine’s classiest classic rock bands.
Justin Lindsay is the 11-year old, 6th grade grandson of Recon Ron Vachon. Hailing from from Scarborough, Maine, Justin has been playing guitar since he was the tender age of 7. Justin’s recent achievements include front page news in the Lewiston Sun-Journal, and a feature on the WCSH6 newsmagazine “207,” cited as the next up-and-coming Child Prodigy.
