About Bhagavan Das

Teacher, performer, counter-cultural icon, lover of God: Bhagavan Das is as rich and manifold as Existence itself.

Bhagavan Das is one of the last living cultural icon of the 60′s. As Ram Das’s mentor (author of Be Here Now) he ushered in the New Age Spiritual Movement being the first Kirtan Artist in America. His groundbreaking album “Ah” (1971) produced by Jimmi Hendrix’s manager Michael Jeffrey’s was the first World Music album from Electric Ladyland. Bhagavan Das has also toured with Allen Ginsberg, opened for the Grateful Dead and sang with Bob Dylan.

Living as a sadhu in India for six years Bhagavan Das studied the ancient science of Nada Yoga under the guidance and direction of his Guru Neem Karoli Baba. Nada Yoga is the path of devotion to the inner sound current as a means to God Realization. Alan Watt’s himself saying in a Rolling Stone review of the Album “Ah” that “Bhagavan Das is truly a Master of Nada Yoga”.

Bhagavan Das’s rare and sacred offering to this world is like a singing open heart heralding the Guru’s Grace through the vehicle of Sound.

Yarmouth, MAINE (August 30, 2011) –Mercy Health System of Maine (Mercy) continues its commitment to bring art to its patients with its newest exhibit “Reflections of Joy,” featuring selected paintings by Yarmouth artist, Margareta “Meta” McDonald at Mercy’s new Yarmouth facility located at 385 Route 1.

“By displaying the work of local artists in our facilities for all to see, it is our goal to create a supportive environment that reduces stress for our patients and visitors while providing them comfort,” said Eileen Skinner, President and CEO of Mercy. “The uplifting qualities of Meta’s work shine through. There is such an explosion of color and joy from the finest details in the various floral pieces to the jagged edges of the ocean’s shore in her seascapes. We are excited for the community and our patients to experience her work.”

Margareta McDonald, was surrounded by art as a child, as the granddaughter of K. Hugo Segerborg, Director of the Royal Art School in Stockholm. Her work is distinctive for its clear message of exuberance and exhilaration for life.

McDonald’s oil on canvas work has been exhibited internationally, as well as locally, at venues such as Elizabeth Moss Gallery of Falmouth and the Chocolate Church in Bath.

“I paint to celebrate life, to explore the light, to re-examine where my days have taken me. Even my landscapes and still lifes have autobiographical elements. My paintings portray an inner landscape – a map of my travels between so many cultures,” states McDonald.

Mercy Yarmouth includes primary care (pediatric to geriatric) and express care services, as well as laboratory and radiology. One does not need to be a Mercy patient to take advantage of these services.

Highly anticipated each year, the Catherine Breer poster calendar has become a collector’s item for art enthusiasts world-wide.

Now in its ninth year of production, the calendar sells at anniecatherine.com and in boutiques, bookstores, museum shops, and fine stationery stores coast to coast and internationally. Each month offers the artist’s perspective of the times and tides of life. Bold colors and bright images are the trademark of this fine artist, whose paintings hang in galleries and private collections world-wide.

The 2012 calendar follows Catherine’s travels throughout the coast of Maine and her observations of coastal homes, water views, and objects normally overlooked.

The artist comments about the 2012 calendar: In the dead of winter I drove up to Harpswell to teach a painting class and kept going all the way to the end. I found an old fishing shack with buoys stacked up and a blue bucket. [January] Going to Vinalhaven in February is completely a different experience from going in the summer. The ferry pitches and rolls, it’s freezing out, you hunker down and hope not to get seasick. But it’s special in the winter. All the tourists and summer folk are gone, and the island takes on a different rhythm. The view of Main Street is a slice of life in the off season. [December] Summer found me in East Boothbay, Maine enjoying fishing, swimming and relaxation; and, of course, painting. [July] In August we took a family trip on the Nathaniel Bowditch schooner out of Rockland for a few days. What a memorable trip. Sleeping on deck under the stars, eating delicious food on deck, having a lobster bake on a deserted island. [April | October] One day we stopped in Stonington and I painted the cover image of the calendar from the bow of that magnificent ship. [August]

The calendar is offered in three sizes. Poster calendar, 11” x 14”, retails for $30.00; desk calendar 5” x 7” retails for $16.00; easel desk calendar, 5” x 6” retails for $17.00. Frames are available for both the poster and the desk size calendars.

Pleasant St., Dover-Foxcroft, Maine USA – A guitar-player’s guitar player, Mark Miller knows how to fill a room with heart and soul, no matter what its size – - from small hip clubs to festivals such as the North Atlantic Blues Festival.
Mark is legendary, in that any true legend is really based on fact, and passed from person to person by word of mouth – over the years. Mark has made his name as the best of blues guitarists in the state of Maine through persistent travel, dedication to his craft, and his love of the Northeast.

Born in the northern Maine town of Houlton and raised in East Millinocket, Maine, Mark has been playing guitar since he was six years old, and for more than 45 years Mark Miller made his living by playing guitar. In the early days, he played with his brothers on the porch. In high school he had a band playing top 40. Later he played with a number of prominent bands as a “hired gun,” did studio work for numerous CDs, then he came back to Maine where he has reigned over the music scene ever since.

The show will start at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 23th and the ticket price is just $10 for this live performance.

About The Hutchins Hall: In 2003 an anonymous benefactor donated what was to become the Hutchins Hall Art Center. Her only stipulation being that it would be made available to the community as a forum for the arts. Since that time with help from our friends in the area, we have been able to provide at a minimal fee, a place where all are welcome and a stage from which all are able to share their talents.

Hutchins Hall is located at 21 Pleasant St. (the old UU Church). Tickets for live performances are $10. You can purchase tickets at Bob’s Home, Garden and Health Food Store on Lincoln St. in Dover-Foxcroft. You can also buy tickets through PAYPAL at www.thehutchinshall.org. A portion of the proceeds from each live performance will be donated to a local charity.

For more information, call Lauralyn Buie at 717-6476 or at lbjambuie@gmail.com or on Facebook at Hutchins Hall Art Center or at our web site thehutchinshall.org

Portland, Maine, May 23, 2011 – Maine Potters Market, a co-operative gallery featuring fine pottery, handmade in Maine, announce Susan Horowitz’s “Made for Japan” exhibit. “Made for Japan” is the next installment of Horowitz’s “Pots for a Cause” series in which special pieces are inspired, designed, and sold for a particular cause. “Made for Japan” will benefit Japanese relief efforts from the devastating earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011. Horowitz’s “Made for Japan” window display and designated pieces will be featured at Maine Potters Market, on 376 Fore Street, Portland, Maine from Monday, May 23, 2011 through Sunday, June 12, 2011.

Inspired by the work of Japanese potters Shoji Hamada and Soetsu Yanagi, Susan Horowitz celebrates the traditions, crafts, resiliency, and culture of the Japanese people. “Made in Japan” will feature vases for Ikebana, the art of Japanese flower arranging, as well as Maneki Neko, or Lucky Cats. The vases have a pin frog, known in Japanese as kenzan, which make it easy to create simple yet elegant displays. Maneki Neko have a long history in Japan. They can often be found as simple rooftop decorations or as beckoning cats at Japanese restaurants. These pieces incorporate Yanagi’s concept of “Minegi” (Folk Art), which treasures, encourages and promotes handmade items above their commercial, less unique counterparts. These pieces also harken Japan’s history of rebuilding, recovering from devastation, and producing some of the finest quality items found around the world.

For additional information, please contact Maine Potters Market at 207-774-1633 or mepots@maine.rr.com.

ABOUT “POTS FOR A CAUSE” – For over twenty years “Pots for a Cause” has benefitted numerous groups that work to end world hunger, improve the water quality of Casco Bay, better the lives of children in Chinese orphanages, and support Mainers living with HIV/AIDS.

ABOUT SUSAN HOROWITZ – Susan Horowitz has been a potter for forty years. She established Ash Cove Pottery in 1985 and believes deeply in the connection between herself and the users of her pottery, as well as the great influence and importance of homemade wares in one’s everyday life. The beauty and grace of Maine’s natural landscape are reflected in her work.

The Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce is now taking applications for the 2011 Carol Sebold HarborArts Juried Arts & Crafts Show series.

Named in remembrance of Maine painter and mentor and friend to countless artists Carol Sebold, the series comprises the 35th Annual HarborArts Summer Juried Arts & Crafts Show, which will be held on July 16 & 17, 2011 and the 26th Annual HarborArts Fall Juried Arts & Crafts Show will take place on October 1 & 2, 2011. Both shows will feature 95 exhibitor booths and artists will be located in Harbor Park, the Amphitheatre and on Atlantic Avenue.

Each year the crowds flock to the heart of Camden to see and shop from artists and artisans who display, discuss and sell their work in a festive open marketplace nestled beside Penobscot Bay. These annual celebrations bring scores of artists and artisans to Camden’s Harbor Park and Amphitheatre whose work on offer represents a wide variety of genres in a setting that has inspired artists for many years. Fine works in watercolor, oil, acrylics, and pastels blend with spectacular photography, sculpture and mixed media. High design jewelry, metal and woodcraft, pottery and exquisite furniture is also available. If you work in the arts you won’t want to miss being a part of either or both of these shows.

As two of the most established shows in Maine, the weekends draw thousands of visitors intent on discovering great art and stunning crafts amid the beautiful and inspirational setting of Camden’s Amphitheatre and Harbor Park. Both shows draw distinct audiences united in a desire to see- and buy- art and crafts in a gorgeous coastal setting. Thanks to the shows’ longevity, there is also room for a wide variety of styles and approaches, with both classic and contemporary approaches on display. The shows are open to a broad spectrum of artists and crafters working in a variety of media. Both weekends are marketed extensively throughout New England, and this year the CRL Chamber is partnering with Cellardoor Winery’s VinFest and other events, galleries and organizations around the HarborArts weekends to promote the idea of “Celebrating the Arts in the Camden Hills” to an even broader audience.

There are a limited number of openings available for artists and crafters who would like to be considered for the show. Please visit www.camdenme.org/harborarts to apply and for additional show information. Please contact Chamber Special Events Coordinator Alicia Bagnall at the Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber at 207-236-4404 or abagnall@camdenme.org with any questions.
