For Immediate Release?
November 14, 2011

Contact:?Gillian Britt, gBritt PR?
207-775-2126

BANGOR, Maine – Shopping during this time of year can often cause people to roar their terrible roars, gnash their terrible teeth, roll their terrible eyes, and show their terrible claws. However, the Bangor Bull Moose has come up with a solution to make shoppers feel a little less . . . wild. Bull Moose is offering its customers an opportunity to give the gift of reading to a child in need.
Now through November 28, Bull Moose Bangor has a special display with titles, including “Where the Wild Things Are,” selected by the Literacy Volunteers of Bangor. Customers may purchase a book from the display for a child in need and leave it at the store to be donated. Each customer who donates one of the books will receive a Christmas card which they can give to someone saying they donated a book in their name. This program was previously run by Borders before it went out of business.
“We are proud to fill the hole left by Borders and provide a way for at-risk children to discover the fascinating and beautiful worlds found in books,” notes Chad Verrill from Bull Moose. “We hope this year’s book drive will be even more successful than years past because of our substantially lower prices and our caring customers.”
At the end of the book drive, the Literacy Volunteers of Bangor will distribute all of the donated books to local organizations serving children in need or at risk.
“Reading to a child is the single, best predictor of a child’s academic potential,” states Mary Lyon, executive director of the Literacy Volunteers of Bangor. “We are so thrilled Bull Moose is helping us provide children in need with books to nurture their love of reading and to fill their worlds with wonder.”
The Literacy Volunteers of Bangor selected 21 titles to be part of the book drive including popular favorites such as: “Charlotte’s Web” by E.B. White, “The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe” by C.S. Lewis, “If Your Give a Mouse a Cookie” by Laura Joffe Nueroff, and “The Princess Diaries” by Meg Cabot. All of the books in the display, along with the majority of books sold at Bull Moose, are available at 35% off the list price. The 21 titles range in price from $2.59 – $11.04.
The Bangor Bull Moose is located at 683 Hogan Road in the Maine Square Mall. It is open from 9 a.m. – midnight on Mondays and from 9 a.m. – 11 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
About Bull Moose:?Bull Moose was started in 1989 in Brunswick, Maine by Bowdoin College junior Brett Wickard. What began as a makeshift store carrying only a few discs is now the largest retailer of new and pre-owned music, movies and video games in Maine and Seacoast New Hampshire with ten stores and more than 100 employees. Bull Moose’s pricing and selection is unsurpassed, and customers are encouraged to sell back their music, movies and games at any store location. The Bangor and Scarborough Bull Moose locations recently expanded to include books. Nearly all books are 35% off list price. The stores also carry audio/video accessories and fun inexpensive gifts. All ten stores are open past midnight every Monday and patrons can shop at Bull Moose 24 hours a day at www.bullmoose.com.
About Literacy Volunteers of Bangor:?Literacy Volunteers of Bangor helps adults with literacy challenges reach their goals through the help of trained tutors. Last year, 277 LV-Bangor volunteers provided more than 16,000 hours of service to 238 adults with literacy barriers. To learn more about how to become a tutor, get its volunteer training schedule, and /or refer a student, contact LV-Bangor at 947-8451 or visit www.lvbangor.org.

THE KAHBANG FESTIVAL IS COMING BACK IN 2011
ORGANIZERS ANNOUNCE DATES, PLANS FOR EXPANSION:
MORE MUSIC, MORE FILM, MORE ART, LARGER SCOPE

FOR RELEASE MONDAY FEBRUARY 21st 2011

Bangor, Maine. February 17th 2011 – Festival organizers are proud to announce the return of The KahBang Festival: music | art | film for its third-annual event in 2011. The festival will run August 5th – 13th in Bangor Maine, from its home base on the Bangor Waterfront, and integrated into venues across the city. The 2011 festival will continue to expand and showcase the absolute best independent, rising talent in music, art, and film – designed with the goal of providing the most unique festival experience in the Northeast.

From its roots in 2009, The KahBang Festival has grown from a one day concert event into a nine-day arts and entertainment event featuring premier music acts, art exhibits, and a full-fledged film festival showcasing new, innovative filmmakers. Expanding from 2000 attendees in 2009, KahBang 2010 saw a combined attendance of 10000, and festival organizers are planning for continued the growth and increased infrastructure and scope in 2011.

Run completely by volunteers, KahBang is a festival executed solely for the benefit of the community, the economy, and the arts in Bangor. Organizers want KahBang to become a significant cultural and economic driver to the region.

Notable performers from past KahBang festivals include multiple award-winning hip-hop artist B.o.B, viral video sensations OK Go, Biz Markie, Matt & Kim, Ra Ra Riot, Ida Maria, Free Energy, Bad Rabbits, along with dozens of other national, international, and local artists, playing sets on the Bangor Waterfront, and in venues across the city.

New additions to KahBang 2011 include the establishment of KahBang Arts, the newly-formed non-profit arm of festival operations. KahBang Arts will work hand-in-hand with the festival in order to bring alternative funding to projects – particularly film and art – and will be an integral part of the 2011 festival, and all future festivals. KahBang is also announcing a commitment to maintain a green, eco-friendly approach to festival production in 2011, introducing “green tickets” in which a portion of ticket sales will be used for green initiatives, such as environmental conservation. In time, the festival will use these and similar initiatives to become the most environmentally friendly festival in the Northeast.

Furthermore, KahBang is proud to announce the first KahBang Connect Conference – a social media industry conference, showcasing experts from across the spectrum of social media and connectivity. KahBang organizers believe that this event will further establish the festival’s commitment to the cutting edge – whether it be music, art, film, or technology. With a various social media vying for the public’s attention every day, KahBang will showcase the up-and-comers in the field, and how social media is fundamentally impacting how people interact interpersonally, with their community, and in the business world.

The 2011 KahBang Film Festival – which runs parallel to the music and arts portion of KahBang – will focus predominantly on comedy and cult favorite films, as well as new, independent films from upcoming filmmakers. Notable past films shown at The KahBang Film Festival include Blood Into Wine, the AFI Silverdocs winning Wo Ai Ni Mommy, and Sundance favorites New Low and One Too Many Mornings.

Festival organizers anticipate initial lineup announcements in early spring, as well as the release of a number of other initiatives still awaiting confirmation, the addition of special guests, and further events in development.

Musicians looking to submit for the concert portions of the festival should visit www.sonicbids.com/kahbang. Filmmakers looking to submit their films should visit KahBang @ www.withoutabox.com.

For more information regarding The KahBang Festival: music | art | film, please contact Communications Director Chris Michaud by phone at 207.461.4435, or by email at chris@kahbang.com.
