Hutchins Hall, Pleasant St., Dover-Foxcroft, ME - 07/25/10 – On Friday, August 6th, Ken and Jane Brooks will perform at the Hutchins Hall.
Ken plays guitar and sings lead and harmony vocals. He began performing regularly in 1965 at the Jonesport Opry House in Down East Maine. While serving in the U.S. Air Force he performed in California and other western states. After the military Ken continued to play at clubs, fairs, concert halls and festivals throughout Canada and the U.S., including playing in Nashville. From 1988 to 1995 Ken was the lead vocalist and guitarist for Bluegrass Supply Company, one of the most popular and best known Bluegrass bands in the Northern United States. Since that time Ken has performed with other very popular Maine bands including, Union River Band, Bob & Grace French and the Rainbow Valley Folks and Fox Hollow.

Ken has recorded seven albums and has appeared as a backup musician on many more. A CD that Ken recorded, as lead vocalist with Union River Band, received a “Highlight Review” in the April 2002 edition of Bluegrass Unlimited magazine published in Broad Run, Virginia. No other New England band had ever received a “Highlight Review” in that magazine’s forty year history. Ken’s recordings have received radio air-play throughout the U.S., Canada and many foreign countries. He is considered an “archivist” by professional recording and touring musician Patricia Buie for his accurate and extensive renditions of classic acoustic roots music.

Jane plays bass and sings lead and harmony vocals. She was first introduced to bluegrass and acoustic music when she and Ken were married. On occasion she would perform a few songs and recitations with Ken and his band, which included Bluegrass Supply Company, and Union River Band. During a time when Ken was not playing in a band Jane learned to play the bass and continued singing to accompany Ken’s varied styles of music. Jane also performed as a member of Fox Hollow. She and Ken have been performing as a duet act since 2004.

Hutchins Hall is located at 21 Pleasant St. (the old UU Church). Tickets for live performances are $10 and Open Mic nights are by donation. You can
purchase tickets at Rumbling Falls, 21 East Main Street, Dover-Foxcroft, or at Bob’s Home, Garden and Health Food Store on Lincoln St. in Dover-
On Friday, May 21st, 2010, Hutchins Hall kicks off its 2010 summer concert series with the Doughty Hill Band. You never know when The Doughty Hill Band might show up as a Blues Band, a Blue Grass band, or a Sixties Band; their diversity with so many instruments and genres demonstrate what wonderful musicians they are. Doors open at 6:30 and the performance begins at 7:00.

One thing is for sure – whatever is happening at the Hutchins Hall Music and Arts Center – is a guaranteed good time. Whether its listening to talented local musicians, visiting with family and friends, or sampling the homemade desserts, Lauralyn Buie and David Jamison put on a memorable show.

This year is extra special. With new lighting, a new sound system, and a café style themed hall, and a new website, Hutchins Hall is ready for a fantastic 2010 season. The beautiful historic stain glass windows have been restored, one in particular that was dedicated to a nurse Sarah Palmer during the civil war. The beautiful brass chandelier, made in 1896 and in dire need of attention, was brought down and repaired, thanks to a donation by a friend of Hutchins Hall. A perennial flower garden named “the Garden of Friends” was planted in front of the hall, as many of the flowers were donations to the hall. Check out or new web site at www.hutchinshall.org or become a friend of Hutchins Hall on Facebook.
