About Bhagavan Das

Teacher, performer, counter-cultural icon, lover of God: Bhagavan Das is as rich and manifold as Existence itself.

Bhagavan Das is one of the last living cultural icon of the 60′s. As Ram Das’s mentor (author of Be Here Now) he ushered in the New Age Spiritual Movement being the first Kirtan Artist in America. His groundbreaking album “Ah” (1971) produced by Jimmi Hendrix’s manager Michael Jeffrey’s was the first World Music album from Electric Ladyland. Bhagavan Das has also toured with Allen Ginsberg, opened for the Grateful Dead and sang with Bob Dylan.

Living as a sadhu in India for six years Bhagavan Das studied the ancient science of Nada Yoga under the guidance and direction of his Guru Neem Karoli Baba. Nada Yoga is the path of devotion to the inner sound current as a means to God Realization. Alan Watt’s himself saying in a Rolling Stone review of the Album “Ah” that “Bhagavan Das is truly a Master of Nada Yoga”.

Bhagavan Das’s rare and sacred offering to this world is like a singing open heart heralding the Guru’s Grace through the vehicle of Sound.

Camden, August 1, 2011: A windjammer celebration is nothing without the vessels themselves. Fans of theses gorgeous vessels will be in luck, Labor Day weekend (September 2-4), as the Camden Windjammer Festival will play host to a glorious parade of sail and steam that includes both Penobscot Bay’s working fleet and many beautiful and unique private vessels too.

A community windjammer party also needs entertainment, and the Camden Windjammer Festival is pleased to announce that the line-up for the Labor Day celebration promises thrills, spills, music, and laughter for all the family.

On Friday September 2nd as the windjammers finish tying up there will be a free public contradance with caller Chrissy Fowler of Belfast (www.chrissyfowler.com) and the band Crowfoot (www.crowfootmusic.com) ongoing on Camden’s Public Landing from 3:30-5pm. Friday fun continues with the Schooner Passenger & Crew Talent Show in Harbor Park. The Schooner Passenger & Crew Talent Show will feature acts funny, fantastic and fabulous from the decks of the windjammer fleet. Friday evening concludes with a fireworks display over Camden harbor, presented by Down East magazine.

Saturday night’s entertainment menu offers two options. At 7:30pm the Camden Public Library will be showing the 1937 Spencer Tracy version of the movie “Captains Courageous” in the Amphitheatre on Atlantic Avenue. Meanwhile at the Camden Opera House, the wonderful Maine humorist Tim Sample will be performing an all-ages show also at 7:30pm.

Born in northern Aroostook County and raised on the Maine coast, Tim Sample is widely recognized as Maine’s premier native humorist. Tim released his first album of “down east” humor in the summer of 1980. Since then he has recorded nine more albums, four of which were released on the Bert and I label, and written and/or illustrated several books including the regional best-sellers Saturday Night at Moody’s Diner and How to Talk Yankee. Author Stephen King has compared Sample’s work to that of Mark Twain and Charles Kuralt referred to him as “Maine’s humorist laureate “ .

Tim’s show at The Camden Opera House will feature new material from his latest album “ Live at Stone Mountain Arts “ which was released in January of 2011. As with all Tim Sample performances the Camden Opera House show will be “profanity free” and suitable for all audiences. For information on tickets call the Chamber at 236-4404 or visit the Opera House online at http://www.camdenoperahouse.com/events.cfm
On Sunday evening (September 4th), the festival closes out with a free performance by the Dave Rowe Trio with special guest Denny Breau courtesy of Maine Today Media. Guitarist Breau is a triple threat: a consummate picker, evocative songwriter, and a singer with a voice that is warm and inviting but completely unpretentious. Hairy-chested, fiddle-driven nautical songs, rollicking bluegrass and Appalachian tunes, old-timey instrumental masterpieces, broad-shouldered Celtic classics, captivating originals, and Downeast wit pepper every show by Maine’s own Dave Rowe. His group’s inventive use of instrumentation on guitar, fiddle, electric bass, and tin whistles along with strong vocal harmonies which hearken back to the great folk bands of the 1960s creates an unique musical tapestry rarely heard in the contemporary folk landscape. The concert, scheduled to start at 7:30pm, will take place under the stars in Camden’s Harbor Park, with Maine’s prettiest harbor providing both a backdrop and inspiration.

The full schedule of events can be found at www.camdenwindjammerfestival.com, but suffice to say the weekend offers something for everyone. From sailing aficionados and blueberry pancake and clam chowder enthusiasts to aspirant crate-racers and boat builders, the weekend is looking mighty ship-shape.

The Camden Windjammer Festival is sponsored by Down East Magazine, Maine Today Media, Wayfarer Marine, Camden Harbour Inn, The Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce, Allen Insurance & Financial, Cellardoor Winery, the Hartstone Inn, and Point Lookout.

Also providing valuable support are The First, Camden National Bank, the Camden Downtown Business Group, the Camden Public Library, EBS, Elm Street Printing & Graphics, Eric Hopkins, Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League, The Maine Windjammer Association, the Town of Camden, Art Tibbetts Marine Contractors, Sikaflex, West Bay Rotary, and the Camden Rotary Club.

The Camden Windjammer Festival is a community led celebration of Camden’s maritime heritage and living traditions. For regular updates on the Camden Windjammer Festival and for more information on any aspect of the weekend, visit www.camdenwindjammerfestival.com or www.visitcamden.com, or call the Chamber of Commerce at 207-236-4404 or 1-800-223-5459.

It’s a birthday party, It’s rare for groups to be together for that long. This is also the first time they have played at hutchins hall we only have 125 seats soooo in order to come to the party people will need to get their ticket early.

Evergreen has been entertaining New England audiences since 1991. Their eclectic style blends elements of bluegrass, folk, blues, old-time, country and swing into a seamless mix of upbeat, energizing music that appeals to a wide range of listeners. Tight harmonies, solid instrumentation, original interpretations and strong songwriting all combine to create a uniquely engaging show, and everywhere they play – from big-time festivals to backyard barbecues – folks tell us how much they enjoy what we do.

They pride ourselves on creating a relaxed, fun atmosphere onstage. It’s easy to see that they enjoy playing music together! Our shows are choreographed around a single mic, and they all take turns fronting the band – giving the audience

a chance to get acquainted with each of us. Ever-changing instrumental and vocal blends and good-natured banter onstage keep our performances entertaining and fast paced, and a constantly evolving repertoire keeps the material new and fresh, year after year.

Pleasant St., Dover-Foxcroft, Maine USA – Abbott Hill Ramblers will kick off the season at the historical Hutchins Hall along with the warm up band Abbott Hill Meanders on Friday, May 13th.

Bluegrass and American Roots music is alive and well in the central Maine area, and it looks like the youthful Abbott Hill Ramblers will help see that its popularity continues. Under the mentorship of Dexter Middle School teacher Chris Prickitt (himself an experienced performer and long-term member of the popular band Evergreen), the Ramblers are composed of middle and high school students from S.A.D. 46. The program

has been going strong since the fall of 2000, kick-started by a Century 21 grant to promote after-school activities. In their early years, they also received significant financial support from the Bluegrass Music Association of Maine. The program is now a legitimate S.A.D. 46 extra-curricular activity.

This group performs quality music, and their entertaining shows are enhanced by their relaxed humor on stage. They have released five recordings, Born to Ramble, Climbing Higher, Going Places, Stages, and most recently, It Can’t Be Stopped.

About The Hutchins Hall: In 2003 an anonymous benefactor donated what was to become the Hutchins Hall Art Center. Her only stipulation being that it would be made available to the community as a forum for the arts.

Singer/songwriter Karen Nason has lived in New York City since she was in her early 20’s but she’s never spent a summer there. When the warm weather arrives, Nason packs up and heads to the shores of Sebago Lake and her Maine roots. Nason was raised in Gorham and went to school with Shawn Moody who is running as an independent candidate in this year’s gubernatorial race. When Nason found out Moody was running for Maine governor, she wanted to help. “Shawn has fantastic views and can make a great change in Maine,” she said. Knowing that her friend and musician Jonathan Edwards shared Nason’s love of the State of Maine, she contacted him about the possibility of organizing a benefit concert to benefit Moody’s gubernatorial campaign. According to Nason, “Jonathan graciously agreed.”

After graduating from Gorham High School, Nason attended the University of Southern Maine where she was active in theater and music. Though her son was born in New York City, he now attends Gould Academy because “I want him to experience Maine and grow up like I did,” Nason said.

By the age of 17, Nason was touring with the Rick Pinette Band and later throughout New England and Canada with her own band, The Karen Nason Band. In addition to writing music and performing, Nason owned a jazz bar and restaurant in New York City for twelve years. She currently co-owns the rights to Bette Middler’s The Rose and hopes to bring the rock ‘n roll musical to Broadway. Her latest venture is a CD she recorded in Nashville, ”Talk to the Hand.” The CD features all original music by sister/brother songwriting team Karen and Maine resident, Jeff Nason.

Jonathan Edwards, who moved to Maine in 2009, is a popular and acclaimed performer whose repertoire includes such classics as “Honky Tonk Stardust Cowboy,” “Sometimes,” “One Day Closer,” “Don’t Cry Blue,” “Emma,” Shanty,” and of course, the anthemic “Sunshine (Go Away Today)”.

In Concert: Jonathan Edwards with Karen Nason will be held on Friday, October 8th, at The Landing at Pine Point. Doors open at 6:30. The show begins at 7:30. Dinner menu will be available until 9:00. Joining Nason and Edwards will be piano player, Joel Diamond who was musical director for Eric Clapton.
