In May 1998, Jay and Jennifer Yilmaz opened the Jacaranda House, a three room bed and breakfast at 8 Holbrook Street. They were excited and inspired at the prospect of residing and hosting guests there, especially because it was adjacent to the long-time home of Mr L.L. Bean at 6 Holbrook St. By the end of the first year, they changed the named to the Applewood Inn. After much sweat and energy, they found their work was beginning to pay off. Guests were just as eager to recommend the Applewood to their friends as they were to return themselves. Soon, Jay and Jennifer found themselves with their first child, Aidan, born in May of 2001. That same year, they acquired the building beside the Applewood and they expanded the inn. In the Summer of 2002, the second building of the Applewood Inn was opened to guests.

The new building was upgraded, and featured rooms with more deluxe amenities. Some rooms have jacuzzis, most rooms now include king sized beds, and all have private baths. The Inn has a Great Room for gathering and dining. The dining table is a custom-designed, Maine-Made cherry harvest table with seating for 26. Today, Jay and Jenn have expanded their family with the addition of two girls, Alev and Sophia, as well as their yellow lab Little Miss Abigail-Wiggle-Bottoms of Stovers (Abby) and her daughter Lilly.

The Applewood Inn is a non-smoking establishment. We welcome children, and well behaved pets are allowed to join you on your stay with us.

We offer complimentary on-site parking. We are 250 yards from L.L. Bean and abutting the GAP and Reebok stores, and we are within walking distance to all of Freeport’s other retail shops and attractions!

FROM SOUTH: On the Maine Turnpike/I-95 North, merge to I-95 North via Exit 44 to Portland/South Portland. Continue on I-95 until Exit 20 to Freeport. Bare/Turn right onto Desert Road/Route 1 North. Continue into Freeport past the fire and police station, make the second left by the Reebok store onto Holbrook Street. We are three houses in on the right.

Bare right onto Mallet Drive. Turn right onto

L.L.Bean launches first ever kids’ winter adventure day camp December 28-30

Three fun-filled days for kids include snowshoeing, snow fort building, cross-country skiing and more

FREEPORT, MAINE/December 14, 2009 – L.L.Bean is hosting its first ever Youth Winter Adventures Day Camp, December 28-30.  Children ages 8 to 12 will spend 4 hours each day (12 p.m. – 4 p.m.) with L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery School experts participating in healthy, fun programming to encourage and promote a life-long interest in nature and the outdoors.  The three-day camp is available for only $95.

“This is the first time that L.L.Bean has ever offered a day camp for kids,” said John Connelly, Manager of L.L.Bean’s Outdoor Discovery Schools. “We understand how challenging it can be for parents to find things for kids to do during the winter months. L.L.Bean’s day camp will allow kids to use their imaginations, learn new skills and have fun outdoors this winter.”

Each day, campers will experience a new activity such as snowshoeing and cross-country skiing (conditions permitting). GPS treasure hunts, knot tying, snow fort building, animal track identification, and building campsites are a few of the other activities.  The camp will be a mixture of activities held inside and outside the L.L.Bean flagship store campus and at its Outdoor Discovery School facilities in Freeport.

L.L.Bean will supply young campers with all the equipment and gear necessary for participating in camp activities.  Parents will need to provide camper’s own snacks and dress them appropriately for both indoor and outdoor activities.

Advanced registration is necessary for the three-day, Youth Winter Adventures Day Camp, as space is limited.  Parents may call 1-888-llbean1 for more details or to register. 

 L.L.Bean will be offering a second Youth Winter Adventures Day Camp during February Winter Break, February 16-18. The February camp will be three consecutive days (Tuesday-Thursday) from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
