Old Orchard Beach, ME – Seaside Pavilion is kicking off yet another inviting summer series with a little musical something for everyone from gospel and folk to jazz to children’s favorites – as well as some comedy thrown into the mix. So, come experience the arts, naturally.

“On the footsteps of celebrating our tenth anniversary and changing our name and tagline to better reflect our proximity to the Maine Coast, our commitment to the arts, and our natural setting, we look forward to an outstanding season,” said Pavilion Ministries Director Cheryl Poulopoulos. “Every year, we achieve a new level of excellence, offering outstanding programming and reaching more and more people, and will uphold this in 2010.”

Tucked among tall pines in a beautiful natural setting, Seaside Pavilion offers a state-of-the-art, intimate, and family-friendly experience. It’s the kind of place that once people discover it, they come back time and time again.

This year’s diverse line up is another reason for coming. Just a few of the highlight performances:

• A great evening of New England humor and music featuring Tim Sample, David Mallet, and The Shaw Brothers on Friday, July 16, 2010.

• 2010 Dove Award nominees for Southern Gospel Song of the Year and Southern gospel Album of the Year, The Perrys will uplift the audience on Friday, July 23, 2010

• Rooted in the tuneful sensibilities of singers like James Taylor and John Mayer,
Bebo Norman will touch people’s gut and soul on Friday, August 13, 2010.

The Salvation Army built Seaside Pavilion in 1998 as a place for its camp meetings and as a gift to the community to enrich lives, lift spirits, and build community through the performing arts. Dedicated by President and Mrs. George Bush, Seaside Pavilion offers a state-of-the-art sound system and 1,400 stadium style seats with views of the professional stage and breath-taking natural setting.

Camden, Maine (June 8, 2010) – Fireworks that send plumes of seawater in the air and explosions of color into the sky above one of the nation’s prettiest harbors will occur this July 1- 4 as the Camden Hills region presents its “Festival of Independence” celebration.

In addition to these fireworks, the Festival will offer outdoor activities, museum events and other family attractions. Its centerpiece will be the live music being performed on the pier and at concert halls around the area, with everything from country and doo-wop to classical and marches being played.

“The July 4 weekend is one of those times in the year when people can slow down and do things with the family, just for fun,” said Daniel Bookham, executive director of the Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce. “This year, we’re giving people a place to go where they can hear all kinds of music, enjoy a hiking trail with views of the ocean, watch a parade and find something great to eat.”

What: Festival of Independence

Where: Camden Hills, Maine

When: July 1-4, 2010

Highlights: Musical performances, theater, outdoor activities, parade, museum events, fireworks. (List of activities, locations and times is below.)

A community-funded fireworks display will take place above – and in – Camden Harbor, with shells being launched both skyward and onto the surface of the water.

“The fireworks that land on the water are very new,” said Steven Marson, owner of Central Maine Pyrotechnics, which is putting on the display. He approached a manufacturer in China several years ago with the idea of in-the-water fireworks, and they developed the explosives at his suggestion.

“When they go off, people will think, ‘Oh, those are dud shells,’ “ Marson said. “Then, the water comes to life. They’ll see plumes of water that are gold, silver and green.”

In-the-sky fireworks also will be spectacular this year in Camden because they are being fired from the water, he said. “Whenever you are on a barge, you are able to use the largest shells, and when you use large shells, you can do a lot of different patterns.”

Old Orchard Beach, ME – Seaside Pavilion, a state-of-the-art, family-friendly, outdoor performing arts center, presents Maine’s own 195th Army Band during a free patriotic concert on Saturday, July 4, at 7 p.m.
Based in Bangor, Maine, the 195th Army Band is under the command and control of the 52nd Troop Command headquarters and is a team of musicians from across the state dedicated to supporting parades, providing morale, and community event support.
“What better way to celebrate our nation’s birth and exhibit our gratitude and patriotism than to share a free concert showcasing our service members,” said Seaside Pavilion director Cheryl Poulopoulos. “The band’s tribute to American music, along with their big band swing and jazz medleys integrated with blues and rock, are sure to bring audiences to their feet.”
In addition to honoring the nation and its troops through music, Seaside Pavilion is teaming up with Hugs of Love to collect cards, letters, and care package items (such as DVDs, phone cards, books, hygiene items, etc.) to send to soldiers stationed overseas.
“We will have a collection area set up at the Pavilion, and we encourage the community to participate by donating a special item for a soldier,” said Poulopoulos. “A hand written note or small token makes a world of difference to a lonely soldier.”
For more information about Hugs of Love, founded by a couple whose son died in Iraq, visit www.hugs-of-love.org. To learn more about Seaside Pavilion or to reserve tickets in advance, call 207.934.2024 or visit www.seasidepavilion.org.
The Salvation Army built Seaside Pavilion in 1998 as a place for its camp meetings and as a gift to the community to enrich lives, lift spirits, and build community through the performing arts. Seaside Pavilion offers a state-of-the-art sound system and 1,400 stadium style seats with views of the professional stage and breath-taking natural setting.
